Visit AWE’s Taste of Apprenticeships event

The award-winning AWE Skills Academy is offering an insight into its apprenticeships programme for young people considering this route into a career.

The event will showcase all of the skill areas offered by the academy, including some of the newer qualifications, such as those in supply chain and human resources, as well as the traditional science and engineering-focused training.

Marcus Hutchings, head of the Skills Academy, said: “We look forward to welcoming young, and not so young, people who want to find out more about the variety of opportunities we offer. These include electrical; electronics; control and instrumentation; precision machining; mechanical maintenance; human resources; laboratory technician; health physics; process operations; finance; project controls; supply chain management, high-performance computing and IT and quality inspection.

“Our focus is very much on developing not only excellent skills, but excellent professionals, who are equipped to go out into the business and really make a difference.”

Each of the specialist areas will feature display pieces and equipment and there will be apprentices and Skills Academy staff on hand to give an insight into their choices; why those chose an apprenticeship over university and the opportunities on offer throughout AWE. Parents are very welcome to attend the event, which will take place at the Aldermaston Recreational Society building on Tuesday 21 November from 12pm to 7pm and Wednesday 22 November from 8am to 12pm.
