Supply Chain Management apprenticeship

Supply Chain Management at AWE is absolutely vital to the success of our business. It is crucial to making sure that what we do is sustainable in the long-term.
Supply Chain Management professionals manage all the different processes that go into equipping and supplying AWE’s people with the materials and tools they need. Our teams ensure that we
achieve the best possible value for money. This gives AWE a competitive advantage in our industry, and enables us to continue keeping the nation safe and secure.
 
What is Supply Chain Management all about?
There are a range of different aspects to our work, and you will discover them all on this unique
apprenticeship. From finding the best suppliers for AWE’s needs, through to agreeing their contract, as well as making sure they deliver on their promises - all these things and more are the responsibility of our highly skilled professionals. As you explore these and other areas, you will discover an excellent choice of careers in Supply Chain Management here at AWE.
 
What will you do?
Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will develop a wide variety of skills. You will learn about them, and get the opportunity to put them into practice. Your new specialist skills will include:
  • Sourcing supplies at the best prices, from the right suppliers
  • Negotiating and writing contracts
  • Contracting management and administration
  • Professional methods of pricing
  • Managing our professional relationship with suppliers, and making sure they perform well
  • Fundamental Supply Chain skills - from understanding terms and conditions, to developing strategies, and much more
How will you learn?
Your apprenticeship journey will last two years. And it really will be a journey. You will move between a range of different teams on placements. This will give you an impressive breadth and depth of insight into how we manage our supply chain at AWE. Your placements - and the training you’ll receive alongside them - will help you to develop a comprehensive, practical understanding of every discipline within Supply Chain Management. By the end of the programme, you will have achieved nationally recognised qualifications. What’s more, if you really impress us, we may consider sponsoring you to gain an appropriate further qualification. Or we might fund you to gain professional, chartered status.
 
What are we looking for?
  • A practical aptitude for engineering or technology
  • PC literate
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Health & Safety aware
  • Effective at following instructions
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods
  • Passion for your chosen profession
  • 2 A levels (preferred) or 5 GCSEs at C (or equivalent) and above, 2 of which must be Math & English.
  • Ideal if you have previously achieved a level 3 BTEC.

Level 4 (Standard)

  • 2 A Levels (preferred) or 5 GCSEs at C (or equivalent) and above, 2 of which must be Maths and English.
  • Ideally achieved a level 3 BTEC

Qualifications achieved during your apprenticeship:

  • Level 4 CIPS (Technical certificate)
  • Level 2 English, Maths (functional skills)- if required
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

Duration of training: 2 years

Starting salary: 10500
