How to apply

Applying for a job here is very simple – just search for a role and apply on line. If you don’t see anything of interest today, you can always register your interest and upload your CV online. It will be there next time you look at what’s on offer.

Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship with AWE is a great way to get your career off the ground. It will give you all the skills and training you’ll need to pursue a varied and exciting role in engineering and technology.

You will be part of our company, which has a very unique role in supporting the defence and security of the United Kingdom. To do this to the best of our ability means we must nurture the right skills and expertise. Our apprenticeship schemes are designed to do just that.

To find out more about the types of apprenticeships on offer, how to apply and what our apprentices have to say about their own experiences see our section on apprenticeships at AWE, here.

Submitting an application

When you apply online and submit an application, you will receive an immediate acknowledgment by email. You can track your application by logging back into your account. Once all applications are received we will let you know if you have been selected for interview and what the next steps are.

Due to the volume of applications received please allow up to four weeks for a response.

Interviews and assessment

The selection process differs depending on the role you’ve applied for. It could involve:

  • A pre-interview assessment
  • A one or multiple stage interview process
  • For apprentices an online aptitude test – if successful, you'll be invited to our assessment centre
  • Psychometric testing – most commonly used for senior manager and specialist roles

When attending an interview, you’ll need to bring two forms of personal identification, one must be photographic. Ideally, this should be your UK passport and either your birth certificate or your photographic driving licence. You’ll also need to bring any non-UK passports.

Once you have been interviewed, we will review all the information collected during the process and make a decision.

If you are successful we will contact you directly to let you know the outcome of your interview and  you’ll receive an offer letter. You will then need to go through:

  • Security clearance
  • Satisfactory references
  • An occupational health assessment (which will include tests for drugs and alcohol)

You can start the security clearance process by completing an online security questionnaire – we’ll give you guidance once you’ve received an offer letter from us. While the security clearance is being processed, you’ll be invited to a pre-employment and medical visit. You will find this is a great opportunity to meet some of your colleagues before you start.

"Good luck with your application"

"AWE promotes diversity in employment.  Because of the nature of work associated with these posts, they are subject to special nationality rules and are open only to British nationals. All selected candidates will be required to undergo security clearance."Find out what it’s really like to be part of the team by learning about what our apprentices have to say about their own experiences
