AWE is required to comply with the Data Protection Act like any other company. We hold personal information, such as personnel files on staff, contractors and visitors.
Such information may be collected for common reasons such as employment contracts and pay issues; other information is collected and stored due to the type of work we are engaged in and legally has to be stored for a number of years.
The Data Protection Act applies to a living individual’s personal data and how this is used by organisations and businesses or local and central government. The Act also gives each of us ‘the right to know what information is being held and that it is being handled properly.
Under Principle 6 of the Data Protection Act all individuals have the right to know who is processing their data and the purpose of that processing.
If you are a current or former AWE Plc employee or a member of the public and wish to enquire whether AWE Plc holds any information about you, please submit a Subject Access Request (SAR) to us.
Once you have submitted your request and we have confirmed necessary details, we will provide a response within 40 calendar days. AWE Plc does not charge a fee for this request.

Ex-MOD employees should make a Subject Access Request to MOD which will then provide a response in accordance with the DPA.
If you are not satisfied with a response provided by AWE Plc, please contact the AWE Data Protection Officer who will assist you with your query.
