Human Resources apprenticeship

At AWE, we have all kinds of unique and world-class equipment and facilities. But it is our people who really make things happen. Our Human Resources (HR) teams deal with all the many activities which relate to our people. That means everything from recruitment, to development, to pay and performance. And because it’s about people, it’s always fascinating.

 What is HR all about?

Put simply, HR keeps the people in AWE performing at their absolute best. We do this by making sure AWE recruits the best people in all the different disciplines we need. We make sure those people are welcomed, that they receive the right pay and pensions, and that they enjoy rewarding career development throughout their time here. It’s a big, broad and complex field of work.

 What will you do?

 Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will develop a wide variety of skills and knowledge. Crucially, you will get to put it all into practice. Your new specialist skills will include:

  • Recruitment
  • Talent planning (identifying and attracting the best people to help AWE grow)
  • Learning and development of people
  • Developing and maintaining good employee relations
  • Performance and reward
  • Employee engagement
  • Organisational design and development (figuring out who we’ll need for future success)
  • And many more

How will you learn?

Your apprenticeship journey will last two years. And it really will be a journey. You will move between a range of different teams on placements. This will give you an impressive breadth and depth of insight into how Human Resources professionals work at AWE. Your placements - and the training you’ll receive alongside them - will help you to develop a comprehensive understanding of every discipline within HR, and the difference you can make. By the end of the programme, you will have achieved nationally recognised qualifications. What’s more, if you really impress us, we may consider sponsoring you to gain professional, chartered status.

What are we looking for?

  • A practical aptitude for engineering or technology
  • PC literate
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Health & Safety aware
  • Effective at following instructions
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods
  • Passion for your chosen profession
  • We’ll expect you to have GCSEs in Maths and English at grade 4 or above (or equivalent qualifications).

Level 3 (Framework)

  • Preferably GCSE in Maths and English at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent)

Qualifications achieved during your apprenticeship:

  • NVQ- Level 3 in Business Administration
  • Level 2 English, Maths, and ICT (functions skills)- if required
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Duration of training: 2 Years

Starting salary: £10500
